Eunice Gertrude Yount, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died at her home November 3, 2014 after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.
Eunice was born May 26, 1931 in Bach, MI (Huron County) to Walter and Emma (Schoening) Wiesenauer. Eunice was the ninth of 13 children. During the Great Depression her family endured incredible hardships yet through strong faith and hard work the family persevered eventually settling in Auburn, MI.
In 1954 Eunice was selected as the Auburn Centennial Queen. True to her attention deflecting manner, her children only recently discovered that she was crowned by then Governor G. Mennen Williams. As the Centennial Queen she attended a grand opening for a new business and met the man that she would eventually marry, Charles R. Yount Sr. Charles and Eunice married December 8, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monitor Township, Mi. They were married 53 years and had four children.
Charles was in the military and they lived many places as typical of military families. While Charles was stationed in Izmir, Turkey, Eunice took the trip of her life; a three week tour of the Holy Lands. She often referenced it throughout her life.
Eunice was a voracious reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, art, classical music, National Public Radio and the simple wonder and beauty of being outside. Eunice retired from the State of Michigan in 1993 after working many years as an Aide at the Regional Center.
Prior to her illness, eighty year old Eunice regularly attended church, participated in Bible Study and various women’s groups at Zion Lutheran Church. She loved to work in her yard and exercise with her dear friend Gayleen Beavers. But what she enjoyed most was time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
